Queer Voices
Bill Gibbons, MEd, LCAS
The LGBTQ+ community historically has higher rates of mental illness, trauma, and substance use disorder than their heterosexual/cisgender counterparts. There is much diversity in the Queer community and it’s very important that queer people be seen and related to for who they are. This is particularly important when viewed through the lens of helping Queer folks find and maintain recovery. Varied Queer folk (gay male, non-binary person, transwoman) will share their journeys to self awareness and acceptance. Through these stories, attendees will learn to see the ways in which they are similar rather than focusing on how they are the same. Speakers will be open to Q and A in the hope of facilitating greater understanding of the LGBTQ+ community.
