Prevention of Adolescent Gambling, Gaming, and Digital Media Use Problematic Behaviors and Addictions: The Power of Health Literacy and a “Train the Instructor” Youth Prevention Education Workshop
Description: This workshop will take prevention professionals through engaging and interactive lectures, discussions, and activities to get a basic understanding of adolescent behaviors in gambling, gaming, and digital media use and how health literacy is a vital tool in preventing problematic behaviors, addictions, and increase academic success and overall health and wellbeing. In addition, an evidence-based curriculum will be introduced in a “train the instructor” framework allowing prevention professionals to utilize the curriculum with adolescents following the training.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe youth gambling behaviors and co-occurring needs.
- Understand basic concepts of health literacy and its impact on overall health and wellbeing.
- Learn how to teach the core concepts of evidence-based curriculum in the prevention of youth problem gambling, gaming, and digital media use.
What to Expect:
All participants are expected to actively participate by utilizing the teaching tools provided to engage with fellow participants in learning by sharing thoughts and feelings. Following the workshop, all participants will be provided with the workshop slides and the evidence-based curriculum to utilize with middle school and high school students.
